Best Cooking Pulses, Inc. is a family owned agrifoods business active in the international pulse trade since 1936.  Our products include whole/split green/yellow peas, and a full range of BEST pulse flours (varietal specific) and pea fibre which we sell into the food ingredient, meat processing, bakery and petfood industries.  All of our products are gluten-free, kosher, halal and available conventional and certified-organic (Can, US, EU, Bio Suisse). BEST Pea Fibre is produced naturally via a proprietary process and is approved by the CFIA, FDA and USDA FSIS.  It is >90% dietary fibre with a bland, neutral taste and smell and is used in the baking, meat processing, and food ingredients industries in North America. BEST Whole Yellow Pea Flour and BEST Pea Fibre  were used in the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals clinical trials as reported by Mariangeli and Jones in the British Journal of Nutrition, July ’10.  These results were summarized in Nutraingredients EU (13 September ’10) ‘Yellow peas show anti-diabetes potential for overweight women.’

Canadian International Grain Institute - Developing new products, processes and knowledge of Canadian field crops through innovation and collaboration! For nearly four decades the Canadian International Grains Institute (CIGI) has worked with the agricultural community worldwide in the promotion and utilization of Canadian field crops. CIGI is an industry leader in delivering customized educational programs and technical expertise and providing ongoing specialized technical support to customers around the world. Through unique projects and applied research activities CIGI is also working with industry to identify diverse applications for Canada’s field crops. CIGI is a one-stop shop of technical expertise and facilities uniquely housed under one roof. Since 1972 more than 31,000 people representing grain, oilseed, pulse and special crops industries from 114 countries have participated in CIGI programs and seminars. Core funding for CIGI is provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Canadian Wheat Board. Additional funds and support are provided by other sectors of the agriculture industry. CIGI’s offices and technical facilities are located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pulse Canada is the national industry association whose members include provincial grower associations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario as well as the Canadian Special Crops Association (CSCA) that represents the processors and traders of pulses in Canada.   Members of the CSCA supply the entire range of pulses including pea (yellow and green), lentil (green and red), bean (navy, pinto, kidney, black, cranberry, pink, small red, Great Northern and more) and chickpea (kabuli and desi) in whole, split and processed forms to the global market.  In addition, the CSCA has several member companies that produce pulse flours and fractions, including pea protein, starch and fibre.   These companies include Best Cooking Pulses (pea flour, chickpea flour, pea fibre), Parrheim Foods (pea protein, pea starch, pea fibre) and Diefenbaker Seeds (pea flour, chickpea flour).  Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is also a partner of Pulse Canada/CSCA providing important support each year for market development activities.
