Sports Innovation Plaza
The Sports & Performance Nutrition 2011 will also
host the Sport Innovation Plaza.
The Sport Innovation Plaza offers retailers, food manufacturers, food
ingredient-, packaging- and technology companies, and research organisations, the opportunity to form and shape new alliances, start
innovation projects and create new business opportunities.
Visit the Sport Innovation Plaza during the 2nd Sports & Performance Nutricion Conference. Learn more about the ongoing research and projects at various
research institutes and actively participate in innovation processes. Many opportunities exist for setting
up joint research projects between research institutes and manufacturing &
ingredient companies.
Research Co-operations & Project calls
Join the conference and learn more about the ongoing research and projects at various research institutes. Many opportunities exist for contract research and also for joint research projects between research (institutes) and business (manufacturing companies and ingredient companies). There are lots of opportunities to get (international) projects funded by the Dutch and EU governments. Bridge2Food wants to contribute to open innovation between various business & research in the European market and has many links to both parties and the government to get projects funded.
- The role of pre- and probiotics in immune function in athletes during extreme weather conditions
Extreme weather conditions can influence immune function. Immune function is for 70% influenced by the gastro-intestinal flora. It is interesting to study the influence of pre- and probiotics on immune function.
- Functional nutrition in relation to maintaining body temperature in extreme cold
It is well known that body temperature is influenced by the environmental conditions, exercise and clothing. In which way nutrition could help maintaining body temperature is not well understood and should be studied.
- The role of functional nutrition in relation to diminished appetite after extreme intense exercise
Athletes can have a dimished appetite after extreme intense exercise. It is however essential that recovery of glycogenstores starts as soon as possible after exercise.
- Functional nutrition and proteins in relation to gastic and intestinal problems during sports and exercise
Gastric and intestinal problems are common in endurance sports. The latest results show that eating during exercise can reduce gastro-intestinal complaints.
- The function of proteins in relation to recovery in elite athletes
Proteins, proteinhydrolysates and amino-acids can promote recovery of muscle glycogen levels. However further research is needed in which way nutrition can alleviate muscle damage.
- Practical transfer of the nutritional needs of athletes in daily nutrition and nutritional products
Food supplements can optimize sports performance. However food supplements are not in reach of the serious competitive athlete. Therefore it is interesting to study the role of these food components in regular food.

The Netherlands
Food & Nutrition Delta is part of the innovation program Food & Nutrition. This program is carried out in dialogue with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, more specific the Agency NL Innovation. On the initiative of the Dutch business community and knowledge providers, together with the Ministries of Economic Affairs, Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, and Health, Welfare and Sport, the innovation programme Food & Nutrition was crafted. This programme, that is focused on the “post-harvest” part of the industry chain, consists of two parts: the Top Institute for Food & Nutrition, and the Food & Nutrition Delta, together aiming at making the Netherlands a leading Food Innovation region in Europe. |
