Research Co-operations & Project calls

Join the conference and learn more about the ongoing research and projects at various research institutes. Many opportunities exist for contract research and also for joint research projects between research (institutes) and business (manufacturing companies and ingredient companies). There are lots of opportunities to get (international) projects funded by the Dutch and EU governments. Bridge2Food wants to contribute to open innovation between various business & research in the European market, and has many links to both parties and the government to get projects funded.

The HAN has a liaison with the Dutch Olympic Sports Committee. The following research projects are under preparation. HAN welcomes companies who want to participate in further developing the project plans and co-operations.

- The role of pre- and probiotics in immune function in athletes during extreme weather conditions

Extreme weather conditions can influence immune function. Immune function is for 70% influenced by the gastro-intestinal flora. It is interesting to study the influence of pre- and probiotics on immune function.

- Functional nutrition in relation to maintaining body temperature in extreme cold

It is well known that body temperature is influenced by the environmental conditions, exercise and clothing. In which way nutrition could help maintaining body temperature is not well understood and should be studied.

- The role of functional nutrition in relation to diminished appetite after extreme intense exercise

Athletes can have a dimished appetite after extreme intense exercise. It is however essential that recovery of glycogenstores starts as soon as possible after exercise.

Functional nutrition and proteins in relation to gastic and intestinal problems during sports and exercise

Gastric and intestinal problems are common in endurance sports. The latest results show that eating during exercise can reduce gastro-intestinal complaints.

- The function of proteins in relation to recovery in elite athletes

Proteins, proteinhydrolysates and amino-acids can promote recovery of muscle glycogen levels. However further research is needed in which way nutrition can alleviate muscle damage.

Practical transfer of the nutritional needs of athletes in daily nutrition and nutritional products

Food supplements can optimize sports performance. However food supplements are not in reach of the serious competitive athlete. Therefore it is interesting to study the role of these food components in regular food.

Frankfurt (Germany)

images/Cityscape_Frankfurt.jpg

Frankfurt am Main, the dynamic and international financial and trade fair city with the most imposing skyline in Germany. This is the image that many visitors associate with the Main metropolis. But the city in the heart of Germany and Europe can offer many other facets and contrasting variety. Near to the skyscrapers you can find cosy Ebbelwei pubs and at the heart of the bustling city centre you can find historical sights again and again. Frankfurt is not just proud of its most famous son, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The Kaiserdom (Cathedral) and the Paulskirche, the cradle of German democracy, are also to be found here. Interesting destinations for excursions in and around Frankfurt turn your stay into a great experience and you will love to come back.
